Bumps and lumps on your feet may be a cause for concern. If you or someone you know notices a bump or lump, especially if it is painful, please make an appointment with Dr. Babol to assess the situation and receive all available options for treatment. There are several bone tumors of the foot (such as osteochondroma or osteoid osteoma) which are usually  benign. The direct cause of bone tumors is unknown with a few possible causes: genetics, radiation treatment, and injuries to the bone. Treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms, meaning, that if there are no symptoms currently, Dr. Babol will regularly monitor your feet with X-Rays, CT scans, PET scans, or MRIs for any changes. A benign bone tumor may not require treatment unless it starts to interfere with movement and/or the function of your feet. If your symptoms are constant and severe, then, in some cases, Br. Babol will recommend removing the tumor surgically and checking for any abnormalities.

Even if the tumor is benign in nature, bone tumors can grow, recur, or become cancerous, so you’ll still benefit from regular checkups with a podiatrist.
